Is Pittsburgh prepared to be a sanctuary city for gender-affirming care?
In this inaugural episode of our video interview series Dare to Care, host Natalie Bencivenga discusses what it means to be a sanctuary city for gender affirming care, how Pittsburgh took proactive measures to pass legislation to get us there, and who will feel the impact.
The Pittsburgh City Council unanimously passed legislation to protect gender-affirming care from out-of-state investigations. We look at how these bills will affect enforcement of any future state-wide bans on such care. Guest Maria Montano, director of communications for the City of Pittsburgh shares her personal connection to this legislation and why this is a necessary first step.
Natalie also spoke with community member Matoaka Winston, who shared her lived experience as a Black, non-binary femme and why this new legislation was a surprise to her, as well as her hopes for the future.
