Facts over Fear: Automatic voter registration will let more voters’ voices be heard
When you think of Pennsylvania, what do you think of?
Pitt and Penn State?
Philly cheesesteaks and Primanti Bros.?
How about swing state status and a battleground for fair elections, in this week’s Facts Over Fear
Republicans, here in Pennsylvania and national party leaders, are upset about Gov. Josh Shapiro’s decision to make voter registration automatic when drivers get or renew their license.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel calls the decision an “unclear and unnecessary last-minute rule change” on voters weeks before the November 7th election.
Former President Donald Trump posted on his so-called Truth Social platform that Democrats are trying to “steal Pennsylvania” and called automatic voter registration a “scam.”
Scam? Steal? Ugh. Memories of 2020. And not good ones.
For his part, Shapiro says automatic voter registration will help tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians make their voices heard.
And I agree.
What I don’t agree with is the Republicans’ obsession to suppress the vote.
Voting should be easy, in person or by mail. And the first step is registration.
Voting is a right, not a privilege. Republicans need to stop trying to suppress it, across the country and here In Pennsylvania.
That, my friends, is a fact.
