Looking for a way to support Pennsylvania’s veterans and service members this holiday season?
The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is encouraging Pennsylvanians to donate to nonprofit, tax deductible programs that support the commonwealth’s approximately 800,000 veterans and service members.
“The holiday season is upon us and we are often asked how the public can honor and support current and former service members and their families as a way to thank them for serving,” Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the DMVA said Tuesday. “At the DMVA we administer nine tax deductible programs designed to aid those who are facing unexpected challenges and need financial aid, shelter, food, employment training or other assistance. These life-changing programs rely on donations from generous Pennsylvanians.”
The following nonprofit programs support Pennsylvania veterans:
- Military Family Relief Assistance Program (MFRAP) – Provides financial assistance to service members and their families with immediate financial need.
- Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF) – Issues grants to organizations that assist veterans in need of housing and other basic necessities in addition to providing grants for veterans in financial need.
- Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Trust Fund – Funds the maintenance of the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial located at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Lebanon County, which recognizes the service and sacrifice in veterans of all service periods.
- Six Resident Welfare Funds – Provides activities and entertainment for residents at Pennsylvania’s six veteran homes – Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home, Philadelphia; Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center, Scranton; Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home, Hollidaysburg; Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home, Erie; Southeastern Veterans’ Center, Spring City; and Southwestern Veterans’ Center, Pittsburgh.
